What’s up everyone? Welcome back to Mental Sweat Monday, I’m Hannah Huesman.

Today I want to talk about controlling the controlables. This is something that is thrown out a lot in the world of mental performance and there’s a reason why.

Because typically the things that are causing us the most stress and anxiety are completely outside of our control.

What do we do about it? Here are two pieces of advice.

1 – Identify what is actually inside of your control on a daily basis

2 – We need to make sure we’re spending time mastering those things than spending time worrying on those things we can’t do anything about.

So ask yourself right now what are things you can actually control on a day-to-day basis. A good starting point is to make sure you’re controlling your A-P-E.

A is for attitude

P is for preparation

E is for is for effort.

If you can bring your best attitude, your best effort and prepare to the best of your ability, then your setting yourself up for the highest chance of success

So, when we see something first and then we spend more time on it, all the sudden that one negative outweighs all of the positives.

Cue the downward spiral.

For example, you post something on social media and you get 20 comments. 19 are awesome and encouraging and one is negative. Which one do you think gets the most of our attention?

We have to fight the urge to sit there and not let that ruin our day.

Part of being mentally tough is to notice when you are getting stuck on the one bad thing and completely overlooking the good.

My challenge for you is this:

1 – Notice the negative and see if there’s something you can take from it.

2 – Notice the positive and see if there’s something you can take from it.

3 – Walk away.

Let it go. Time for the next rep!
