Some people achieve their goals, and some don’t. If you want to reach your fitness goals and build a physique that all your friends will envy, you need more than goals. You have to build the right mindset. Here are 6 types of people with the wrong mentality – don’t be one of them!

THE PROGRAM HOPPER

These people are addicted to starting. They fight hard in the beginning and stick to a plan religiously, but only for a short while. They never stick with a plan long enough to see if it really does work for them. They are distracted by every shiny object that crosses their view and are always looking for the latest and greatest way to get fit fast. While there is something to be said for variation, you need to stick with a training program for at least 3 to 4 months to be able to determine if it is the fit for you and to get the true benefits of it.

THE GENETIC COMPLAINER

You can’t escape genetics, no one doubts that. There are always going to be people out there that have half the amount of discipline you do and yet achieve double the results, and there’s nothing you can do about that. Some people can’t pick up a dumbbell without building muscle while others take many years of dedicated lifting to achieve mediocre results. The Genetic Complainer is someone who becomes defined by their limitations. They use their genetics as an excuse to give suboptimal effort and are easily discouraged by lack of results. Just remember the saying,”hustle beats talent when talent doesn’t hustle”. Just because you weren’t blessed by the muscle building gods doesn’t mean you shouldn’t work hard to become the very best version of yourself, you just may be surprised.

THE ASKHOLE

An Askhole is someone who asks a million questions from people about health and fitness but never truly applies any of the knowledge. Any chance they get they will ask someone what the best way to get results is, what are the best foods, what kind of training program gives the fastest results. They are essentially looking for someone to give them the answer to an easy way out. Yes, it is OK to ask questions and learn as much as you can, but you must apply the knowledge you gain. No matter how much you can learn from others, you need to put in the time and effort to discover what works best for you.

THE OVER-ANALYZER

The Over-Analyzer is someone who is consumed by stats and data, always looking for the latest and greatest research on supplements and training. They are constantly distracted by new information and fail to stick to any one plan long enough to truly determine if it is right for them. The fitness industry is filled with contradicting information. Sure, there are a few things that have stood the test of time, like whey protein and creatine for gaining muscle, like that found in Six Star Whey Protein Plus, but many training methods and nutritional theories are debunked on a consistent basis. Try to limit the amount of research you do, stick to the basics, and spend time really figuring out what works best for you through trial and error – do not confuse yourself through analysis paralysis!

Whey Protein Plus: Triple Chocolate

Six Star® Whey Protein Plus is enhanced with core ingredients clinically shown to build more muscle and strength than whey protein alone.

THE PEER PRESSURED

Peer pressure is a very real thing that affects people in many facets of life. When it comes to health and fitness, peer pressure can often be the downfall of individuals with low willpower and poor self-discipline. The fact is, sometimes you are going to have to say no to friends and family if you really want to achieve your goals. You may face ridicule at times for making the right choice, like ordering a grilled chicken salad when all your friends order burgers or wings, or when your friends are planning a big night out but you pass because you know you have to train early in the morning. Yes, you need to have fun sometimes and let go, but just make sure you do it on your terms at pre-planned times, like a cheat day.

THE STRESS BALL

Becoming healthy and fit should be a fun and rewarding experience. However, there are those that at times take things much too seriously. If you are professional and you make your living from looking a certain way that’s one thing, but if being fit is your hobby you cannot get too stressed over the minor details. If you miss one training session, your progress won’t be derailed. If you eat 5g of carbs more than your daily nutrition plan allows, you won’t get fat. Stressing over minor details is what will actually derail your progress. When you are stressed your body produces higher levels of the hormone cortisol, which can lead to unwanted fat gain. Don’t be a Stress Ball. You must stay disciplined but relaxed at the same time. Remember, it isn’t a race – it is what you do over the long term that will determine your results.

Remember, you are the driver and hold the key to personal success. Don’t get sidetracked and keep your eye on the goal.
