What’s up everyone! I’m Hannah Huesman and welcome back to Mental Sweat Monday, presented by Six Star Pro Nutrition.
Today I want to talk about my all-time favorite mental skill and that’s imagery. Imagery, also known as visualization, is creating or recreating an event in your mind.
Now the key to imagery is to make it as real as possible. It’s not just what you can see but using all of your senses. What do you hear? What do you feel? What do you taste? And even, what do you smell? You want to see it through your own eyes and you want it to happen in real time.
You can practice imagery on something you’ve never done before. Something that you’re working on and maybe have been struggling with. Or maybe it’s something you’ve done a million times and maybe you want to get some more reps in.
The reason imagery works is because the same neurons are firing in your brain as if you were actually physically practicing that skill. When done correctly, your brain cannot tell the difference between a mental rep and a physical rep.
So remember, when you’ve done all of your physical reps for the day and are still looking to get better, go and get some mental reps in.
